Abstract:
Wastewater from sugarcane factories in Hau Giang province with the high level of organic materials could create pollution when released into the surrounding environment. However, this problem could be solved by biological methods such as wetland treatment. Preliminary survey about distribution of aquatic flora surrounding the sugarcane factory areas realized that there were a lot of Cryptocoryne ciliata Wydler plants growing well. To study the wastewater treatment ability of Cryptocoryne ciliata Wydler, we designed an experiment with 2 factors: (1) with and without the plants, and (2) dilution of wastewater from sugarcane factories at 3 concentration levels as 100%, 50%, and 25%. Water in the experimental boxes taken to analyze at days 1, 3, 5, and 10 after treatment showed that the level of pollution reduced by time, and the presence of Cryptocoryne ciliata Wydler made better environments compared with the treatments without the plants by reducing the level of pollution through such water parameters as pH, TSS, COD, T-N, and T-P. Therefore, this kind of plants can be used for wastewater treatment from sugarcane factories. Results showed that most of experimental parameters met the requirement of National Technical Regulation on Industrial Wastewater (QCVN40:2011/BTNMT, column A). However, the TSS and COD after 10 days of treatment were still higher than those in the regulation. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct futher researches about treatment time to ensure that all parameters meet the regulation.
