Abstract:
The mountainous region of Nghe An border, where contains a number of prehistoric cave sites, witnessed the early human occupation since approximately 60,000 BP. It is also a place where some late Paleolithic and early Neolithic sites arose, contributing to the formation of the middle Neolithic cultures of Vietnam such as Da But, Quynh Van and the late Neolithic one like Bau Tro. After 7,000 BP, the ancient residents in the region still maintained the traditional Hoabinhian styles such as living in cave, hunting, gathering, particularly collecting various freshwater molluscan species. In the early Bronze Age, some residents had moved out of the cave to occupy the ancient terrace of the Lam river, practicing the sedentary farming activities, contributing to the cultural exchange, integration, and acculturation of the pre-Dong Son culture in Northern Central of Vietnam.
